Who Run the World? Girls!

Hey everyone! I hope your week has gone fabulously so far :) Sorry about this late upload... school and extracurricular activities are keeping me extremely busy. My next upload will also be late due to a school excursion. Sorry! Regardless, I hope you enjoy!

So since it's girl power week, I'm gonna talk to you girls (or guys... sorry if you're reading this!) about catty girls and cliques. I'm gonna try to make you feel comfortable in your own skin, because I know that it was something that I struggled with through out my younger middle/highschool years!

Firstly, I want to start off by saying be yourself. This doesn't mean running around the hallways at school screaming and yelling at your friends carelessly to make people think you're funny, because in all honesty, they'll probably just find it irritating! Don't try to make it look like you have tons of friends by hanging around people you don't like, because they'll just get annoyed. I'm not saying that you shouldn't try to hang out with lots of different people, just don't force yourself to hang out with people you aren't going to have fun with to look 'cool' or 'popular'.

Secondly, accept the fact that you can't be friends with everyone. It just simply isn't possible! There are going to be people who like you, and people who don't. And you have to admit that there's at least one person you aren't very fond of at your school! So take it easy and don't get super upset when you hear that someone has been talking behind your back. Of course, it hurts to hear it, but you have to understand that they only say those things out of jealousy. Know that you're stronger than that, and you won't let their comments bring you down!

Partying. There are all sorts of cliques in school- the populars, music geeks, druggies, hipsters, athletes, class clowns, etc. Most likely, the populars will throw the parties. Don't feel upset if you don't get invited to these parties! (unless you're friends with the party-throwers, then you might want to talk to them). Usually, parties are thrown so people can get drunk, get high, wear revealing clothing, make out with guys, create drama and to climb higher on the popularity chain. Most people don't understand that these parties are thrown to make the invitees feel better about themselves. They'll take thousands of pictures and post them on Facebook or Instagram to show off how cool and popular they are, hanging around boys. This is because they're insecure. These girls don't have enough confidence, so they throw parties to make other girls think that they're better than everyone else.

When presenting yourself at school, wear what you want. (If you have school uniforms, then this paragraph doesn't really relate to you... sorry!) I'm not telling you to wear shorts that show your bum with a thong hanging out, and a shirt the size of a bra... but be expressive! Clothing is a good way to show who you are and it will attract people to you! Think of it this way... if you saw an extremely pretty girl in a little sundress and flats with her hair braided, and another equally gorgeous girl in sweats and a crop top with her hair unbrushed, who would you be more likely to compliment? ...that's what I thought!

And last but not least, the topic all girls worry about... boys. Personally, I think boys are confusing! And I'm sure quite a few of you agree. Lots of girls think that they need a boyfriend to look confident and be happy, which definitely isn't the case. I'm not going into great detail about this topic, because Paisley wrote about it on Monday (check it out below!) But I just want you to all know that having a boyfriend is a lot more work than you'd expect!

Girls are essential to keep the world going, and as cliche as it sounds, every one of them is beautiful in their own way. It hurts me so much to see girls with cuts on their wrists or tears on their faces. In this generation, media has a huge impact on girls which causes tons of depression and unhappiness. Even if there's only a few people who read this... I want you to know that I think you're beautiful. You deserve to be on this Earth just like everyone else. Times may feel tough, but they get better. I promise. Stay strong and keep your chin high because honey, you're gorgeous.

Girl power!

This week is girl power week and that means issues and problems that girls have! Such as embarrassing stories that involve certain girl things... As well as just normal boy problems that happen day to day, nothing is off limits!

I am going to talk about boys in high school. Everyone always has that one boy they have their eye on, and that's just how it is. Just saying hello to them as you pass then in the hallway or sitting across from them in class just to make sure they know you exist. Those are just a few examples of what girls do. Relationships in high school usually are just in high school so I wouldn't spend all your time on them. They definitely add to the experience and are loads of fun so do not take them for-granted because the reason you are in a relationship with them is because you love and care for them. I do not understand relationships where the two people barely know each other and have no emotional connection. At my school I see it happen all the time, and unless you really want to get to know them and see it going somewhere then what's the point? To hold hands in the hallway and be able to say that you are taken?

Another point i would like to add is that the whole reason you are at school is to learn, and if you focus all your time on him/her then you need to tone it down a bit. School comes first! Maybe you could do school work together so it isnt like being together is taking anything away from you.

I am in no right to criticize or give advice to anyone because I am not experienced in this criteria. But the reason I am saying these things is because this is what happens at my school all the time and this is just my take on it, and my observation. So correct me if I am wrong (please do so) and feel free to give us some stories on your high school relationship and how you manage it. But one thing is for certain, love is love, so follow your heart and it will make sure you lead the life you are supposed to!!!

Lexi's Inspirational Style Icon

Aside from her previous Disney Channel career on 'Wizard's of Waverly Place', this gorgeous actress has also starred in films, created a singing career and launched her own clothing line! You guessed it... Selena Gomez.

Selena was one of my favourite actresses when I was younger, and still to this day, she continues to impress me with her success. But apart from her career, Selena is a huge fashion icon to me. Sure, maybe the things we see her wearing are only at big Hollywood events and such (or paparazzi pics!), but her style sense is one that I adore.

In the picture above, Selena is shown wearing a loose-backed blue dress that's beaded throughout. I think she looks so stunning! The blue really pops and the looseness of the dress shows off her amazing figure. I also thought that it was really smart of her to put her hair up- so people would pay attention to the dress!

When Selena went to the beach with Justin when they were still dating, Sel was caught in many photos wearing the raspberry coloured bikini that you can see in this picture. However, she covered up with a cropped crochet-style shirt and shorts to walk around. Since there isn't much colour in her outfit, she added a leopard print bag. Genius, if you ask me!

And I saved my all-time-favourite outfit for last! In the shooting for Selena's hit song 'Love You Like a Love Song', she was seen wearing this gem covered dress. It's so colourful and interesting... it reminds me of a peacock! With the matching earrings and her flowing hair, Selena looks overall flawless. I wish I could look that good everyday!

To be honest, I wouldn't really know how to describe Selena's style! Maybe comfy-chic? Or just chic? Let me know what you think in the comment section below :) Hope you guys enjoyed reading about my love for Selena Gomez' style, (or just looking at her stunning photos!) And I'll talk to you guys next Tuesday!

BTW. For anyone who was confused... Paisley uploads on Monday's and Thursday's, I upload on Tuesday's and Friday's. Every week, there's a different topic, but within each week there are two subtopics. For example, this week was beauty week! So the first subtopic (Monday/Tuesday) was beauty reviews. The second subtopic was fashion icons (Thursday/Friday). This should happen every week :) And at the end of each month, Paisley and I have decided to do advice to help you guys out! Let us know what you'd like to hear from us next in the comments. Thank you sooo much for supporting! <3

Paisley's Style Icon

I have always loved Spencer Hastings (Pretty Little Liars) sense of style. I am very girly and super preppy when it comes to my own sense of style. So whenever I see Spencer wearing something, I ALWAYS like it. She has a mixture of super preppy and girly, but also has some outfits that are more relaxed and casual which is why I love her style.

Preppy is something that not everybody likes on themselves, but always like it on someone else. Whenever i go shopping at the mall, i always find myself buying the same things, peter pan collars, high wasted full skirt, cute cardigans, anything along those lines. A thought that should go through everybody's mind is "Would Spencer Hastings wear that?" (of course you would substitute your fashion icon for Spencer but you get the point.)

For essentials that you should have in your closet regarding Spencer's style, i think they should be:
  • White collared shirt
  • Many blazers
  • Things with ruffle-like things or a bow of some sort
  •  A pair of knee-high boots
  • A pair of women oxford shoes
  • A cloche hat and beret
  • Women's Peacoat
  • Many thin belts to top a look off

Sorry for the late upload, but i hope you liked it!

Lexi's Mascara Review!

Hey everyone! So, I'm aware that several beauty gurus and such do makeup reviews. I know that I'm being a little mainstream by reviewing a mascara, but it's just so good that I want to share it with you all!

Covergirl Clump Crusher (by lashblast) mascara is AMAZING. I use the waterproof kind in the colour 'very black'.

The clump crusher mascara leaves zero clumps whatsoever, which (when going for a natural look) is mandatory! Personally, I like having thicker and fuller lashes, so I use a few coats of Rimmel London Scandaleyes mascara over top of the Clump Crusher. However, when I'm in a rush, the Covergirl mascara is the perfect little touch of makeup needed to enhance your eyes.

Another benefit that the clump crusher has is that it dries really fast. I don't know if it's supposed to, or if that's just me, but it dries quite quickly, so I don't have to worry about it smudging all over my eyelids or anywhere else.

The brush is slightly curved as you probably noticed in the photo above, which is perfect for getting into the inner corner of your eyes. Do you ever realize how sometimes, the mascara will clump at the end of the brush and clump all over your lashes? Well you don't have to worry about that with the clump crusher, because it is a very light formula, and the bristles of the brush are very thin. In addition, the brush is slightly flexible which allows you to work with it a little easier. I think the brush is the perfect size, because its not huge and intrusive. Sometimes, mascaras have brushes that are extremely large which are hard to control! Also, the brush is a plastic-y hard material, so it stays in place whilst you are applying it.

The only negative side about this mascara is that it is extremely painful when you stab yourself in the eye with it accidentally! I think that everyone has poked themselves in the eye while applying it at least once, haha. As I mentioned above, the brush is quite solid... which is helpful, but very painful too. However, I guess this doesn't really count as a negative, because it's not the makeup companies' fault that you poked yourself in the eye with it!

Clump Crusher (in Nova Scotia) costs only about $6 in drugstores, which is quite good for a good quality mascara! I definitely recommend this mascara to everyone who wears it! Its affordable, beautiful, and my favourite mascara in the world! I will definitely purchase this one again.

Paisley's Review

Review: Clearasil Ultra Cleansing Cream Wash

I have been using this face wash for quite some time now, and I have really grown to like it. Although it does not state in the name to reduce or demolish acne, it does astonishingly! I use this to wash my face everyday (after i remove my makeup, to use it to its full potential) and this has cleared my acne almost completely! If you choose to use this cream wash as your makeup removal is works great for that as well, just keep in mind this is not meant for your eyes.

On the bottle, it claims to reduce the size of acne in 12 hours, so either by the end of the day, or the next morning you should notice a difference. This face owned up to its claim with flying colours. For using it for the past month, I have not noticed any cons, but one thing i would have to say it doesn't help my oily skin. It does not make it better, but it does not make it worse either. If you have bad acne i would suggest this product ,there is a whole collection for the product that includes wipes for your face that reduce acne in as little as 6 hours for a more intense product. There is also foaming face washes, and regular face wash all designed to reduce acne in a certain number of hours designed for the harshness of your acne.

I do have to say that if you are going to use this as your makeup remover, this face wash does not work as well as i stated. It removes makeup very well and leaves your face feeling clean, but since it has to work through the makeup, your acne does not go away as quickly. I use a simple makeup remover towelette ahead of time so my skin is clean. (On the back of the bottle it says to be used on a clean face, so it isnt designed to remove makeup, but it is designed to get the disgusting gunk out of your pores that is causing the acne therefore, only removing the surface makeupvand is not able to get seep down in your pores.)

I know this was mostly all repetitive, but there is only so much you can talk about in a face wash. If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and i would be happy to answer them.

Lexi's Back-to-School Routine Habits!

For students of all ages in my hometown, school is starting very soon. For some readers, it may have already started! For this blog post in 'back to school' week, I'm going to help you all out with some healthy habits, because everyone can get off track once in a while. I'm not saying that you have to follow these rules or else you'll fail school miserably... I just think that many people could benefit with these habits!

AT HOME HABITS:

1. Get a decent amount of sleep. Lets face it- most middle/high school kids are going to stay up late watching videos, texting their crush or stalking people on FaceBook (don't worry, I'm not judging!) but sleep is extremely important. Without it, you won't be able to function properly. Most health enthusiasts say that we need at least 10 hours of sleep, but to be fair, I'm going to suggest at least 7. That means if you have to wake up at 6:00am for school, you go to sleep at 11pm. Pretty reasonable, am I right?

2. Eat breakfast and lunch EVERY day. That doesn't mean grabbing a granola bar and a juice box and leaving the house for the day. Trust me, that was my life style for a bit, and I felt like crap! If you don't seem to have enough time in the morning, pack a lunch the night before. Throw it in your backpack the next morning and you're ready to go! As for breakfast, throwing some yogurt and fruit into a blender gives you enough energy to last until lunch!

3. Balance your homework and extracurriculars. Try to get your homework done as soon as you get home from school to eliminate the stress of getting it done later. If you find that you're too stressed, give yourself 30 minutes of electronic time before going back to your homework. If homework doesn't get finished and piles up, you will be much more stressed than you first anticipated!

AT SCHOOL HABITS:

1. Be nice to all students and teachers. Everyone is bound to get at least one teacher in their school life that they hate. You're not going to like everyone, and not everyone is going to like you. Its a fact of life! But you need to try your best to be friendly to all of your peers. I know I probably sound like a teacher right now, but if you have a good reputation, then the good grades and good connections will follow.

2. Concentrate in class. So you sit beside the class clown who is always cracking jokes, or teasing the teacher. They're always poking and pinching you and trying to get the teacher pissed off. Whatever you do, don't encourage them! Tell them that you're trying to concentrate on the work or move to somewhere else in the room. Don't be rude about it and swear at them like crazy until they go away, but intimidate them. Show them that you're the better person, and you know how to handle any situation. Your teacher will also see you responding to the situation well!

3. Stay organized. Paisley's post for this week is about organization, so if you want a more detailed explanation, then go check that out. All I can say is to keep your binders, locker and homework very organized to keep yourself stress free!

ATTITUDE HABITS:

1. Stay positive. If you walk into school with a frown on your face every morning dreading class, then nobody will want to be around you. If you keep a positive attitude, other people will be happy too and school will be a little bit less painful! Mind over matter :)

2. Don't freak out. If you get a bad mark on a test or assignment, don't beat yourself up over it. Calmly ask the teacher what went wrong and how you could improve for next time. They will definitely help you, because they want to see you succeed! Believe it or not, teachers are there to help you, not to drag you through boring lessons every day.

3. Be social! When you have the opportunity to talk to friends, then do it! Meet as many people as possible and make new friends. Of course at our age, social lives are very important. They can get you jobs, study groups, invitations to fun parties, and even best friends for life!

So I hope that those of you who struggle with good habits will benefit from this post! And of course, changing your habits and attitude will take a while but it's definitely worth it.

Paisley's Back to School organization tips!

School is soon approaching and for some of you has already begun. I am going to be sharing some of my back to school organizational tips so you can enjoy school and not think of it as a totally bad thing.
Here are my top three organization tips for school! Although they are short, there is a lot of information in these paragraphs to remember.

1. Get an agenda. I know everyone says to get an agenda, but it is soo true. Without one you could forget assignments, not accomplish everything you wanted for that night and be stuck doing homework until midnight catching up. The perks of an agenda is so you can plan ahead. If you plan your nights ahead there isn't anything to worry about and can take a lot of stress off of you. Also, if you plan ahead, you can complete other assignments that might not be due for a while on a night that you don't have much homework so you don't leave it to the last minute, therefore having extra time when it is close to the due date to do fun things.

2. Binders. I know many people don't like binders because they are big and bulky (which i agree with) i find that my notes aren't as organized as i would like them to be. When i do projects i want somewhere else to work them out other than in my notebook. Another downside to notebooks are that you cant take papers out. (you can, but there is nowhere else to put them afterwards.) In my school you have to type up most of our notes, so folders don't work because we have WAY too many papers that any folder could hold.

How to organize a binder:
  • use dividers to separate between types of notes (ex. Homework, handouts, notes, projects, assignments and tests, extra paper, etc.)
  • use plastic folders because they will last all year, while the paper folders will rip in the whole part and make you unorganized halfway through the year. (They are worth the money and are re-usable!)
  • Purchase binders with the plastic slipcovers in the front to indicate which class the binder is for, or choose a colour for each class to colour-coordinate your binders to your classes, this way it is easy to differentiate which binder is for which class. (Meaning more time to talk to your friends rather than finding your binder, and also lowering the risk of taking the wrong binder.)

3. Accordion files. These I find to be very important because they eliminate the problem of bringing home all four binders and all four textbooks if you have homework in all four subjects. All you would need to bring home is your textbooks and the accordion file. Just put all the notes needed for homework from that subject and put them in that class's designated folder and voila! No need for a binder.

I hope these three rules made your school year less stressful and a little easier.

Welcome to Paisley and Lexi's Blog!

Hi everyone! We're Lexi (17) and Paisley (16) and this is the beginning of our very own blog :)

We're super excited to be interacting with people over the internet, because we feel like we have many things that you would like to hear. Every week, we will have a different topic of interest (ex. beauty, life experiences, advice) and we will both be writing 2 separate posts each that involve the certain topic!

Due to personal issues, we won't be posting any photos of ourselves to keep this blog strictly informational and fun, rather than posts about what we wear or what we look like. However, if the weekly topic pertains to outfits/beauty/etc, we may post pictures of our bodies. We would like to keep our face off of the screen!

Both of us will try very hard to stay on top of blogging but sometimes it may be hard, especially during the school year because of exams and social events. We're both very passionate about starting a blog and letting you all know bits of our lives, because we love to read about other people's lives as well!

We will end this blog post here to keep you all interested and not bored out of your minds (sorry!) and we truly hope that whoever is reading our posts will get the most out of them. Love and best wishes,

Lexi and Paisley :)
